HOW DO I KNOW IF I NEED TO REQUEST AN ASBESTOS INSPECTION?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral that may be present in some older building materials. When materials remain intact and undisturbed, they typically do not pose a health risk. UNT’s asbestos program helps prevent exposure to airborne asbestos fibers during maintenance, renovation, and construction activities.
Risk Management Services coordinates with Facilities to confirm whether asbestos-containing material may be present and to ensure work is completed safely by trained personnel.
Submit an Asbestos Request for Inspection before any work that may disturb building materials (cutting, drilling, sanding, grinding, or similar activities). This includes work above ceiling tiles and mounting or anchoring items to walls.
If you plan to disturb any building material that may contain asbestos, request an asbestos inspection at least 3 weeks before work begins. This includes any renovation or demolition involving:
